Fostering Innovations and Strategies to End Domestic Violence

The Mary Byron project serves a constituency of crime victims, their family members, spouses, and children, law enforcers, district attorneys, business owners protecting employees against violence in the workplace and citizens at large. We work locally and nationally to raise awareness of the issue of domestic violence and bring together diverse perspectives in the search for solutions.

Walk a Mile/Mary Byron Scholars

Posted 8/01/11

nunnOn March 27, 2011, Assumption High School held a track meet to raise awareness of the problem of dating violence. The event was organized by the Mary Byron Project Scholar students, who worked with representatives from Trinity High School and Saint X to develop and advertise the meet. The track meet was modeled after "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" events, in which men walk—or, in this case, run—while wearing heels to demonstrate their support of ending domestic violence.

Mary Byron Project Executive Director Comments on Steve Nunn Sentence

Posted 7/01/11

nunnMarcia Roth, the Executive Director of the Mary Byron Project, was interviewed by the Courier-Journal and the Lexington-Herald Leader in regard to the sudden conclusion of the case against former Kentucky State Representative Steve Nunn. Nunn, who pled guilty to the 2009 murder of his one-time fiancée Amanda Ross, received a life sentence, affirming, Roth said, the "incalculable loss" of Ross' life and demonstrating that high-profile abusers can no longer use plea deals to dodge severe penalties.

National Summit to End Domestic Violence

THE MARY BYRON PROJECT SHOWCASES INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS THAT WORK

handAt the Mary Byron Project, we believe that the informed discussion and dissemination of ideas is necessary to bring about an end to domestic violence. With that in mind, in November 2009, we invited our 28 previous Celebrating Solutions winners to speak to an audience of over 150 attendees on the programs that they have implemented.

The high-profile audience included rights activists, policy makers, and law enforcement officials.
